Monday Mayhem – As high as an elephant’s eye

Well, in truth I’m fairly crashed out. We just had the best dinner and I am stuffed to the gills.

The local grocery has a butcher who makes these fabulous chopped sirloin steaks edged in garlic and coarse pepper. When I was cruising the produce section to pick up Tim’s leaf lettuce (why else would I go there?), I spotted some fresh sweet corn on sale 3 ears for a buck. I had a bag of Yukon gold potatoes in the pantry and an envelope of Lipton onion soup mix in the cabinet.

The steaks were juicy and flavorful, the potatoes crisp, and the corn the sweetest I have tasted in a long time. In other words, it was the perfect storm of a meal.

So in addition to the better-than-George-Clooney-in-a-yellow-raincoat meal, here are four other highlights from a lovely holiday weekend:

  • On July 4th, someone who sounds a lot like me, but has a different name received their first recommended read on the USA Today Happily Ever After blog!
  • The clingy monkey boy wanted his Moogie when the big, mean fireworks scared him. Nothing beats having the little man you love choose you.
  • I had my annual July 4th viewing of The Music Man. Yes, I sang. No, Jewels, I didn’t record it. As for the rest of you, you’re welcome.
  • I wrote over 5k this weekend. And I have a crazy impulse to start an entirely different story tonight. Somebody stop me!

How about you? What were the highlights of your weekend?

  1. Sounds like an awesome weekend! Congrats to the ‘sounds like you but has a different name’ author! That’s fantastic!

  2. Someone who sounds like you was featured on the USA Today Happily Ever After blog? Wow! You wrote over 5k? Awesome! Your little man chose you? Amazing! You didn’t record yourself singing? …. *crickets*

Well, 3 out of 4 ain’t bad! 😉 Sounds like a fantastic weekend! Hope your week is even better!

  3. My weekend was pretty good as well. Enjoyed the 4th with the family. We shot off some fireworks (don’t tell any one). Saturday was a barbeque/birthday party with friends. I got to enjoy my granddaughter run around and smack a pinata. i must say she’s quite the professional now. I’m all ready to go to the airport to try my luck in Sin City, (in a pair of jeans that were too tight but now I’m able to get into again.) Small victories.

  4. Low key best describes this weekend. And uneventful. The 4th I did laundry, mowed the yard and did some weeding. Listened to all the neighboring fireworks that evening. Emily Dickenson (our cat) was not pleased. But I did get to have a nice long catch up with a long time friend on Sunday after church. More weeding and rereading one of my favorite authors. Congratulations on the recommendation, looking forward to reading that one myself.

  5. Substitute the steak for chicken or fish, and that does sound like the perfect meal. Top it off with brownies for dessert, and you have yourself a winner!

I had a pretty busy but sort of relaxing weekend. Friday I watched some soccer, de-cluttered my house a bit, then went to a friend’s for BBQ and fireworks. Saturday I watched some more soccer, washed my car, took it in for an oil change, and did 2.5 hours of yard work. I was pooped after that. Sunday was cleaning inside. Lots of laundry, scrubbing, de-cluttering, vacuuming, dusting, washing, etc. I was a busy bee.

I managed to get some TV time and reading in there too. 🙂

Congrats to your friend on her USA Today mention 😀
