Monday Mayhem – Festival of Fried Food!

October in Arkansas means it’s State Fair time. We go each year as a family, and we always have a blast. This year we saw:

Bunnies!

And bears!

And weird women!

Oh my!

But the star of the show for the Ethridge family is always the delightful array of deep fried foods available for consumption:

Twinkie, pickles, and pecan pie!

For me, the biggest hit was the deep fried pecan pie. Even better than a funnel cake. Yum!

Do you have an annual outing with your family?

What tops your hit parade for deep fried goodness?

Come on, dish!

    1. It wasn’t the same without you. We did not have the Kool-aid or Coca-Cola this year. We did, however, indulge in the chicken on a stick and footlong corn dogs again. I thought of you the whole time.

  1. I have tried deep-fried oreos, actually very tasty.
I generally go with the veggies, artichokes, mushrooms.

I remember when we used to go bowling they had a samplier platter. It had shrimp, stuffed jalenpenos, artichokes, mushrooms, zuccini. I was in heaven

  2. One year on Thanksgiving we decided to add deep fried cookie dough and snickers to the menu. I eventually deep fried every dessert we had, and I have to say that deep fried pumpkin cheesecake is to die for!!!!

  3. Well, you’d think that this would be my thing, wouldn’t you? We do have a county fair not too far from my house that we’ve gone to every September for 29 years, and the one thing we always have to get is the deep-fried cheese curds.(Dip ’em in ranch dressing, yum!) One year we got a deep-fried 3 Musketeers bar and even with 4 of us eating on it we couldn’t finish it. (Of course that might have been because we’d already had a tenderloin sandwich, a funnel cake, and roasted, spiced almonds.) Great. Now I’m hungry and I still have 2 hours before going home time.

    The bunnies were adorable!

    1. Your menu sound spectacular to me. None of those pesky veggies like Laurie. I’m still shuddering. Oh, the cheese curds! Reminds me of Wisconsin. Yum!

  4. Oh my goodness! I’ve been remiss in responding to this. Hee, rhyme! One day I would love to go to the state fair with you. And I’ll take you to the Canadian National Exhibition in return. Looks and sounds like a total blast! 🙂
