Six Sentence Sunday – 11/18/12

**The winner of last week’s contest is Joanne Stewart! Congratulations, Joanne, and thank you all for your comments. More fun to come as we get closer to release week. In the meantime, back to St. Blaise!**

This week, I’ll be sharing six sentences from the September installment of my Hot Nights in St. Blaise series.

Welcome to St. Blaise, Missouri: Home of The Men and Women of St. Blaise Regional Medical Center

When the St. Blaise Regional Medical Center Board of Directors hired hometown girl, Beth Watkins, to jump start their public relations, they never imagined she’d be stripping their most prominent doctors, nurses, and support staff down to their birthday suits in order to beef up the hospital’s bank account.

Six men and six women were chosen to represent the best and brightest of this little town nestled in the heart of the Mark Twain National Forest. They also happened to be the hottest tickets in town. Soon the fundraising calendar is spiking temperatures throughout the Show Me state, and the men and women of St. Blaise are setting their small-town nights on fire.

Here are six sentences from Seducing Mr. September:

“You were avoiding me?”

His hand slipped up her arm, his palm molding to the curve of her shoulder before sliding up the column of her neck. “I was trying to avoid disaster, but then you walked into my store and made that impossible.”

“You’re calling me a disaster?”

His nod came slow, but there was no way he could deny the havoc this attraction would wreak in the nice, quiet life he’d found for himself in St. Blaise. “You’re the most beautiful disaster I’ve ever seen.”

Here are six sentences from August Awakening:

“But I can’t help but think maybe we might be good for each other, too,” he said quietly. “I need to be in control to survive.” He trailed his fingertips over the curve of her jaw to the hollow of her collarbone. “You need someone to take the weight off your shoulders.” His body tensed, ready to spring the moment she gave over to the possibility. “If you give your worries to me, I’ll give you what you need, Jenny. I swear I’ll set you free.”

Here are six sentences from Roman Candles:

“Jesus, you taste incredible.”

He kissed her again, hard and possessive. For a second she wondered if there might be steam coming out her ears. His tongue demanded her response and his hands ran rampant all over her. The urge to surrender to him, body, heart, and soul was a physical ache. Need knotted in her throat, burning like a coal and eating up the oxygen in her lungs.

Tiny hairs the color of coal dust curled around her fingers. The swell of her hips played peek-a-boo from behind his. Powerful, thick thighs all but blocked her from the frame. He covered her hands with his but not to halt her progress or guide her, merely because he wanted to go along for the ride.

“I knew we’d be beautiful together,” she whispered, holding his gaze in the mirror. “And with you, I won’t have to be everything all by myself.”

“Whoa, hold on a second,” he rasped.

Kelsy shook her head, punctuating her stubborn refusal by loosening another two buttons before sparing a glance from under her lashes. “You’re perfect,” she whispered, yanking the tails of the shirt from his pants.

“What are you doing?”

She freed the last button then shoved the shirt over his shoulders, trapping his arms at his sides. “I’m going to paint you.”

Before she could stop herself, she started mixing paint colors in her head—espresso with a dab of goldenrod. Maybe a dash of burnt umber stirred in to get that reddish tinge.

“I don’t need any trouble,” he said, but the rasp in his voice told a different story.

His words may have been no-nonsense, but the way those amber-flecked eyes raked her from head to toe promised nonsense of the most delicious kind. Casually trailing her fingers across the paint-smeared palette she’d tossed aside, she tilted her head and wafted her most innocent smile in his direction as she rubbed the slick acrylics between the pads of her fingers.

“I promise, you’ll like the trouble I have planned for you, Officer Jameson.”

The flashlight slipped from his grip and crashed to the scarred tile floor. Oblivious, he curled his fingers into fists to keep from reaching for her.

“Come in.” She cocked her head and crooked a finger, coaxing him into the room like a reluctant stray. Her eyes lit with laughter before her lips curved into a smile and he knew without a doubt that somehow she was reading his mind.

Confused, amused, a tad irked, and more than a little horny, he tore his gaze from her in a desperate attempt to gather his wits.

Alarm bells clamored in his head the moment recognition clicked. Kelsy Tecato. Artist in Residence. Painter of hard-on-inducing nudes. Live and in person, standing in the Templeton Museum after hours as if she owned the place.

And naked as the day she was born.

Today’s selection comes from the upcoming Hot Nights in St. Blaise series. Here’s the blurb for Bustin’ Out All Over:

Terri Ecklund wishes she’d never agreed to be Miss June. As billing manager for SBRMC, she could appreciate that the damn thing had raised a healthy amount of money to fund hospital improvements, but it also cost her big. She could deal with the sly snickers, crude jokes about her ‘assets’, and the perfect strangers whistling ‘June is Busting Out All Over’, but her boyfriend couldn’t.

When the pro-fisherman she hooked long ago cuts bait and takes the contents of their joint bank account with him, Terri scrambles to patch the pieces of her life back together but not before tearing a strip off the smarty-pants internet genius who set the The Men and Women of St. Blaise Regional Medical Center up to go viral.

Internet millionaire and St. Blaise native Quent Halliday nearly swallowed his tongue when Terri Ecklund, St. Blaise, Missouri’s god-given rebuttal to Pamela Anderson’s plastic surgeon, stormed into his St. Louis office spitting nails over the loss of her almost-fiancé.

Drawn to the sparks flying from her eyes and the lure of her bountiful curves, clever Quent knows the opportunity of a lifetime when he sees it. Without hesitation he drops everything to chase after the girl of his fantasies, and when he catches her, they’re both shocked to discover he may just be the man of her dreams.

Six Sentences from Bustin’ Out All Over:

She hauled off and did a little marking of her own when the palm of her hand connected with his gorgeous ass with a ringing slap.

His groan came out tangled up with a startled laugh. “Yes, please.”

“Never in my life have I ever met a guy I want to hit as much as I want to hit you, Quentin Halliday.”

He flashed a cocky grin as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed. “Never in my life have I ever liked kissing a girl as much as I like kissing you,” he called over his shoulder as he strolled toward the bathroom.

Today’s selection comes from the upcoming Hot Nights in St. Blaise series. Here’s the blurb for Mr. Mayhem:

Lab tech Melanie Curtis claims Dr. Marc Mayhew’s shy smile won her vote for Mr. May, but the fact is, she’s been aching to get a taste of the delicious Pathologist’s mochachino skin since the moment she set eyes on him.

Quiet and reserved, Marc was happy to take refuge in his research until she walked into his lab. He tried to ignore the attraction that sparked and sizzled each time she drew near, all too aware of the strict edicts issued by the hospital’s Human Resources department, but he couldn’t deny that he wouldn’t mind subjugating himself to his bossy little subordinate. Over and over again.

The only variable he couldn’t predict was how far Melanie was willing to go to get the results she expected. When she tests his mettle, Marc finds he’s more than willing to risk everything on a case of chemistry run amok if it means he can claim her as his. For keeps.

Six Sentences from Mr. Mayhem:

“You don’t get to call all the shots.” His voice came low and soft, wrapping around her ankles like wisps of smoke. Staring into his ebony eyes, it was impossible to pretend she didn’t know exactly what he meant. “I don’t mind you callin’ some of them.” His drawl deepened, flowing thick and rich as molasses over the rough edges of a raspy laugh. “As a matter of fact, I like a woman with a take-charge attitude.”
