Weekend Writing Warrior – 4/19/15

Here are eight more from  my work in progress, Play Dates. It’s a contemporary romance about a woman whose little niece helps her snag the man of her dreams. Monica justifies using her niece as hunk bait.

“You’re going to do it, aren’t you?”
She jerked her head up to find Melody giving her the slitty-eyed stare. “What?”
“You’re going to go out with him and you’re going to let that poor man go on believing that my baby is yours.”

The sheer dramatics had Monica rolling her eyes. “Why is it you never added theater to your artsy-fartsy repertoire?”

“Stage fright,” Mel answered without missing beat.

“Listen, I’m just going to have dinner with him. How often does a girl like me have a shot at a hunk like that?”

That’s all I have for now. Be sure to check out all of the Weekend Writing Warrior posts here.

Happy Sunday!

    1. Oh no wait, I misread the sentence ‘you’re going to let that poor man go on believing that my baby is yours.”’ sorry! In that case, go get him girl!

  1. Let the girl have a little fun, Melody. The truth will come out eventually. Probably. After things get a bit more messy I’m sure. 😉 Great work!!

  2. Messy, indeed. Not good to lie. She’ll be found out but with your writing skill, this will be fun.

  3. Love the realness of these characters! Flawed characters are the best! Can’t wait to hear how this date pans out. Great eight!

  4. Uh-oh she’s going to be in trouble when the truth comes out. Great snippet, Maggie!

  5. Oh! This is like the anti-secret baby! How delicious. 🙂 it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Great dialogue between them, too. I really enjoyed it!

    1. Ha! Anti-secret baby! I love that. I may steal it when pitching, with your permission, of course. 😉 Thank you!

  6. “Anti-secret baby” – a new trope is born! Enjoyed the excerpt, I can see trouble clearly ahead but it’ll be fun to read, no doubt. Great 8!
