Weekend Writing Warrior – 9/21/14

Posted on Sep 21, 2014 by Maggie Wells   8 Comments | Posted in Blog

I’m away at a writing retreat and the connectivity is hit and miss, so I have to be quick. Still working on Full Court Press. Wrote these eight while I was here.

“What story are you looking for, Davenport?”

“Something better than another up-close and personal with the NCAA basketball’s reigning queen.”

“That’s the only story I have to tell.”

“I bet I can get a juicier story from your lesser half.” He brushed past her as if they hadn’t shared the world’s most anti-climactic courtship. “Tell Coach McMillan I’ll be in touch to set up my exclusive.”

“He won’t give it to you,” Kate called after him.

“He’ll give it to me,” he answered without turning back, “or I’m sending this straight to the Chancellor’s office.”

Tempers are hot in this eight. Good writing. You paint a great scene through dialogue.

Oh, that sounds low. Lots of great tension!

Davenport, you little bastard. Loved the ‘anti-climactic courtship’ line. This story is the love of my life, Maggie. That is all.

Now, that’s an interesting threat. Sounds like they have quite a history together that could make the future miserable.

I loved the tone of the exchange, really great dialog. Terrific snippet, can’t wait for more.

What’s he going to send to the Chancellor’s office? I must’ve missed it, sounds like fireworks a brewing though!

Yes, because threats never backfire! He might regret what he has to pay for his story.
